The 14th European Congress of Chemical Engineering (ECCE) and the 7th European Congress of Applied Biotechnology (ECAB) will be held at the CityCube in Berlin from 17 to 21 September 2023. The motto of this year's event: "Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering – Acting Together".
Chemical engineering, biotechnology and bioprocessing are the key to a sustainable economy providing innovative solutions for food supply, mobility, energy, health and well-being. At ECCE 14 & ECAB 7, scientists from industry, universities and research institutions from Europe and beyond will meet in Berlin to discuss the latest research and industrial applications.
Conference topics include the European Green Deal and its opportunities for research and development in the process industry, the digital transformation, and the interplay between biotechnology, chemistry, process engineering and other relevant disciplines.
The five-day event will feature a total of almost 600 speakers, including renowned plenary speakers like the 2021 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Benjamin List, Director of the Department of Homogeneous Catalysis at the Max Planck Institute für Kohlenforschung. In his lecture "Catalysis for a better world", he will present the huge contributions catalysis can make to solving the current global challenges. There will also be an industrial exhibition with leading companies such as BASF, Hamilton and Berghof Products & Instruments. The poster exhibition with around 1,000 posters and numerous networking opportunities with around 2,500 participants will be open all days. Last minute posters can still be submitted online until 31 May.
ECCE & ECAB also has a lot to offer for the next generation: in addition to a science slam, students will have the opportunity to enter their own model vehicle powered by (bio)chemical reactions in the ChemCar competition. The chemPLANT competition calls for theoretical knowledge and practical skills in process engineering. Both contests serve to exchange ideas and knowledge between companies and students. Furthermore, the creative young process engineers of the VDI-GVC together with the EFCE’s Early Career Chemical Engineers organise a programme tailor-made for students and doctoral candidates.
The Early Bird rate will expire on 15 June 2023: doctoral students can attend ECCE & ECAB for 490 euros, regular tickets will be sold for only 950 euros until then. With the support of sponsors, a contingent of free conference tickets is also available for students who have not yet completed their Master's degree. Online registration will open by the end of April.
About the ECCE & ECAB Conference Series
The first ECCE took place in Florence/Italy in 1997 and since then has been organized every two years at different locations in Europe. Since 2011, the congress has been a joint conference with the European Congress of Applied Biotechnology. ECCE 14 & ECAB 7 is organised by DECHEMA e.V. in cooperation with the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) and the European Society of Biochemical Engineering Sciences (ESBES) and will take place from 17 to 23 September at the CityCube in Berlin/Germany.
